In today's world attention is the most valuable currency.
Depending on if it’s good or bad, it can skyrocket your business towards the sun or burn it straight to the ground.
One of the best ways to get attention is through creating awesome content.
That could be writing articles, social media posts, YouTube videos, etc.
By the time you’ve finished reading, you’re going to know one of the key components to creating that awesome content.
=Don't Let This Cripple Your Content=
I’ll be completely honest, most marketing nowadays is absolutely dreadful, it really sucks. Especially when it comes to content creation.
Formatting is a key component in content creation. If your content looks intimidating, your audience will pass right on by without a second glance.
You wouldn't believe how much good quality content I've seen fail because of a simple formatting issue.
=Hey, It’s Not Your Fault=
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not blaming you for any of this, because it’s really not your fault.
Being at school for so many years takes its toll on how you see things.
Don’t know about you but I was taught to format my articles like a newspaper because apparently people love newspapers.
It was all good while my work was being marked by teachers. Once I tried it in the real world I got a huge kick in the teeth.
After this, I thought it would be worth a shot trying to learn from other sources. I joined an online university that specialised in marketing.
That’s where I met my mentor, his name is Arno.
I showed him some of my previous work and he absolutely demolished it. I’d never been flamed so hard in my life. And yes at the time I resented him for it.
When I finally put my big boy pants on and got over myself, he showed me a trick that changed my marketing completely.
=The Silver Bullet=
My content always looked like a newspaper. Lines upon lines of boring sentences. Droning on and on.
That’s also the majority of the content I see.
Truth is, no one has the attention span for that anymore.
That’s why we need to be careful with how we format our content.
Let’s take articles as an example, this one specifically.
Notice how every section is cut up into easily readable chunks. Even the biggest paragraphs only take a few seconds to read.
And one section leads onto the next and the next and so on.
There are very few people who want to read a 25,000 word essay on why they should buy your product, or why you're the best at what you do.
99% of the time they’ll see that and their brain will melt and drip out of their ear.
We don’t want that.
Keep things short, sweet, and easily digestible.
We’ll get into the other key components of making awesome content in future articles.
