I know, I know, you’re here to learn how to get superpowers. Well don’t worry, I won't disappoint. 


This is a skill I found very hard to master, I suppose that’s mostly because of the people I had been around for many years.


You’re not here for my life story, you’re here to make money, so let’s get into it.  



The Pain Of A Bad Situation



We’ve all had our fair share of bad situations: running your business, trouble at work, school, or anything else. 


I can guarantee you’ve either had or are coming very close to having that bad situation that’ll be a turning point for how you live your life. 


I vividly remember my turning point. 

It was around two years ago, I was working for a company selling home security. They threw me in at the deep end on my very first day. They put me on door knocking duty. Trying to scrape together leads for the higher-ups who “didn’t have the time” to do it themselves. 


I must’ve knocked on at least 100 doors that day. 

No surprise, the first couple of doors didn’t go well, ok I’ll be honest, neither did any of the others. 

After a couple of hours the thoughts took over. “This won’t work, I’m useless, what a waste of time.” 



Don’t Twist The Knife



Everyone has these thoughts when things don’t go well. If you told me you never did, I would call you a liar.

It’s these negative thoughts that can have a detrimental impact on our lives and our business. Especially If we decide to give up altogether, like I almost did. 


Negative thoughts lead to rash, emotionally driven decisions. 

Like after I got back to the office, I was running on pure emotion. In my mind, I was quitting there and then. 


Imagine if I did. There’s a very high chance I would have quit sales altogether, I definitely wouldn’t be running my own business. 



Do This And Win At Life



Luckily for me, my sales manager was just leaving for the day when he caught me quitting. 

He blocked the door, sat me down and managed to pull me back down to earth. 


I explained what had happened, he just smirked and said “Josh, bro it’s not that deep. You’re looking at things completely wrong. Instead of looking at every no as a personal failure, look at every no as a step closer to a yes.” 


That was my turning point.

This doesn’t just work for sales, this can be applied to every single aspect of your life. And will massively improve the way you run your business.



The power of perspective. 



The next day, instead of letting the no’s get me down, which then would impact my performance for the rest of the day. I remembered, each no gets me closer to a yes. 

As if by magic I managed to close 5/15 prospects that day, which for me at least was a pretty awesome feeling. 


In my opinion, if you haven’t mastered the power of perspective, you can’t run a successful business. 


Cold calling with no success? Good! Every call is a new lesson and a step closer to success.

Your girl left you? Good! More time to work on your business.

You got scammed and have no money left? Good! Now you have nothing to lose. 


Negative thinking turns into a negative perspective.

I tried negativity for around 25 years of my life before I learned this, and it never got me anywhere.


Negativity has no upside and a huge downside so why would you even bother. 


Remember, only good things come from having a positive perspective when times are tough. It won’t come easy, but If you really can apply yourself to master the power of perspective, it’s truly a priceless skill. And if you only choose one skill to master in your life, make it this one. 


So stay positive and let’s make some money.
