People are hungry. Not just for food, but for results.
Like almost everyone, when starting out I struggled to get my business off the ground.
It really started to take off when I discovered the secret to finding these hungry people. Y’know, the starving crowd.
In the next few minutes, we’re going to talk about how you can do the same.
Let's get into it.
The majority of ads that businesses run are terrible for a number of reasons.
It doesn't matter the country, language, or industry. Almost everyone is making the same mistake.
The main reason I see above all others is they fail to find the starving crowd.
=What Actually Is A Starving Crowd?=
Well, believe it or not, it's exactly what it says on the tin.
A starving crowd is the people who are hungry specifically for what you’re selling.
Sounds simple doesn’t it? You won’t believe the advantage this gives you over pretty much all other businesses. It’s like entering the Tour De France in a Ferrari, you can’t lose.
Gary Halbert, a great marketer created “The Starving Crowd Principle.” This is very simple but extremely effective.
Let’s say we are going to have a competition. We’re both going to open a restaurant and compete against each other to see who can sell the most food in 2 weeks.
I’ll give you any advantage in the world. You can have the best food, the freshest ingredients, or the coolest place.
All I want is a starving crowd.
Why?
If your audience isn’t hungry for what you’re selling, it doesn't matter what advantage you have, you’ll still lose.
There’s no point in trying to sell the world's best steak to vegans, or Macallan 55-year-old whiskey to a toddler.
=Ok... So How Do I Find The Starving Crowd?=
It’s pretty simple.
You need to upgrade your “Hungry Market Radar”
Change the way you view the world.
So let’s say you write ads for a living, every time you interact with a business look at how you can improve it.
For example: You can help companies on Google Adwords increase their conversion and profitability. You can do this because unlike them, you understand direct response marketing.
Or you should if you write ads for a living.
You could write articles for their social media. This can be especially effective for local businesses.
They need a social media presence to make them stand out from everyone else, that's where you come in.
You should always be scanning potential clients for these four things:
1 Do they have money?
-
2 Do they want to expand their business? Or have a problem you can solve?
-
3 Can they, or should they hire someone like you?
-
4 Can you add value?
So think about your ideal customer, see if they tick all the boxes above.
For now, this is a basic overview of finding your starving crowd. We’ll get into more detail in future articles. If I try to cover it all in this one, we’ll be here forever.
