You can spend tons of money doing everything right but if you do this one tiny thing that pretty much all businesses do, it’ll crush your success like Godzilla stomping on Tokyo.


Go about writing your ads in the wrong way and it’s all over, anyone who happens to click on your ad will be gone faster than a babysitter’s boyfriend when the car pulls up.


It’s all good though.


Let’s make sure you know what NOT to do so you can rake in the profit.

=The art of not selling=


I was at my local coffee shop the other day, walked in, got my coffee from the cute barista, and sat down to do some work on my laptop.


A few minutes go by and they bring a new sign out from the back and put it outside.

“Our coffee is made with the finest Arabica beans, come in and enjoy.”


The shop owner was extremely proud of this sign,

I overheard him talking to the barista about how it’s going to 10X his daily income. 


My forehead smashed my keyboard. 


The coffee shop owner is making the same mistake as pretty much all businesses.

There’s a reason why marketing is so hard to get right.


Because everything we're taught, even in business school, is either outdated, pointless or just straight up doesn’t work. 


I decided to speak to the owner. 

Told him I was in the marketing field and politely hinted that he was wasting his time and money with his new advertising method. 


He just ignored it.  

Spoiler alert - his income didn’t 10X.


When it comes to advertising most of us naturally think our product is the holy grail.


In an ideal world, it is.

But…

This is the real world.

A famous example - 


The Wolf Of Wall Street 2013.

“Sell me this pen” 


“Well this pen is durable, it’s really high quality, the ink is scented, blah blah blah.”


NOOOOO!


It’s a complete waste of time actually trying to sell the pen. 

Why… It’s a pen, nobody jumps out of bed in the morning thinking “I must have a new pen,”


It’s not a thing. 


What is exciting to people is what the pen can do for them.


They can use it to write down their best ideas, sign those multi-million-pound deals, the list goes on. 

Can’t do any of that without a pen. 


It’s exactly the same with your business.


To help you understand a bit better I’ll drop another example.


Say you own a hardware store.

An old guy walks in, he tells one of your staff he needs to put a hole in the wall. 

Naturally, they'll sell him a drill right? 


Take notice though, he didn’t come in wanting a drill.


He came in with a problem, and you solved it.



REMEMBER - We’re not selling a product. We’re selling the amazing end result, the answer to all their problems. 


A good way to look at this: 

When writing your ads, think about how your product helps the customer. How it makes their life easier and solves their problems. 

Advertise that.
